Weapons of Mass DistractionWeapons of Mass Distraction

Morning has broken.
And I'll be buggered if I'm going to clean it up.
The election is in 10 days. Apart from the increased likelihood of Bush winning just to piss me off, I simply do not know who is going to win.
I'm not sure we will know immediately after the election either.

What if, because of the damage wrought by four (count 'em - four) hurricanes, some displaced voters are either unable or unwilling to return to their voting districts.

The result might be, on paper, a victory for Kerry. And let's say that leads to a victory in the electoral college. Now the Governor of Florida (Jed Bush), supported by the state legislature, passes a 'disaster bill' that allows them to not send their state's collegiates, 'because of the disenfranchizement of a large number of Florida voters, due to the recent storms, we feel that the result does not accurately reflect the intentions of the people of Florida, and we therefore cannot in all conscience send our votes to the College in support of John Kerry'.

The Federal government, house, senate and President , all republican controlled, go along with this decision, passing a federal emergency 'disaster exemption' bill into law.

Lawyers are making more money than they ever dreamed, but 20th January is approaching, and Bush claims he's still president. Kerry claims he will be President, since the actions of both Florida and the Federal government are unlawful, but a republican controlled supreme court rules otherwise.

On 20th January, Bush is still in the Whitehouse. But the Governors of New York, Maryland and Vermont decide that Kerry is in fact the president and order their national guard units to ensure the new president is properly instated. Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware feel just the opposite - that the Democrats are crying 'foul' again like they did in the 2000 election, and so feel compelled to support the existing president....

Play out your own scenario from there...
