Ok, I have a lot of work to do on this, but I need to get the concept down so that other people, smarter than I am, can start digging into this if they so choose and tearing it apart if neccessary.

All kinds of anomalies in Human History, from the longevity of the Sumerian Kings, ancient Deities, including Enki and Enlil, Jawheh and Loki, Egypt's Osirian Dynasty and the puzzling collapse of the first Dynasty and the rise of the second, all these things and many more can be explained in one sentence:

From the dawn of humanity until sometime between 3150 and 1650 BC, mankind was hive-oriented.

The difference between a Queen Bee and a Worker Bee in a Bee Hive is diet. Queen Bees get Royal Jelly while they are gestating, Workers do not.

In the book 'The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind', Julian Jaynes assumed that the God-voices man was hearing came from inside himself, because the left and right hand sides of the brain were not communicating in quite the same way that they do today. Although I don't think that was the case, I don't think the voices that were heard came from God either, although the effect was probably the same on the individual.

Some humans were Queens (yes, I know, some still are - ha bloody ha). and some were workers. A dietary component was lost in the last great flooding around 3150 BC. So no more Queens could be produced. Or perhaps they could, but the climactic conditions were such that the crops could not survive indefintely.
We lost our ability to make the Human Royal Jelly which allowed some Humans to be made 'Queen Bee' (King bee, strictly speaking). I believe Pheromones played a large part in the process of relaying information backwards and forwards between the individuals involved - I don't think we're really talking about telepathy. But the worker's Bicameral mind would have picked up on the pheremones transmitted by the leader and translated them into commands to be carried out - commands which according to Jaynes we felt compelled to obey.

The secret of kingmaking was lost when the climate in Egypt changed. There were probably some alchemical solutions devised and tested, but clearly none of them worked that great, given where we are today.

Great Kings (Queen Bees) of the past would have been such figures as Jahweh and Adon. Osiris and Set. Zeus, Thor, Venus, Isis, Dagda and perhaps Gabriel, Uriel etc.

Longevity would have come through the perceived survival of a particular hive mind, similar in concept to the group mind described by Nick Farrell in his book Gathering the Magic.

If you think in the above terms, then additional concepts like the Search for the Holy Grail, The mysterious 'Blue Apples', The Fall, the importance of a Royal Bloodline, and a Priesthood to preserve the secret of King making all take on a deeper meaning.

Evolution has not moved far enough along for us to no longer be able to 'do' this hive stuff. But something is missing from our diet. The big question is - if we found it, would we want it back?
