Humility (here we go again)Humility (here we go again)

Time for one of those entries again.

Today, I want to talk about Humility. For those of you who aren't familiar with all 'this stuff', let me fill you in on the story so far.

This continues along with the theory that death is an automatic process and that although there are some things you cannot take with you when you die (such as money, position, your collection of porno movies), there are 'qualities' that a person has that help define who they are, and it is those qualities that can remain after we pop off. The more of the qualities you have perfected, the more of 'you' will survive intact in some form that you can attach your identity to. This entry and this entry will bring you up to speed on that.

The qualities we have talked about so far are:

  • Altruism
  • Forgiveness

So today we're going to talk about Humility, but other things we will talk about are:

  • Love
  • Sex
  • Beauty
  • Faith
  • Sincerity
  • Honesty

To name but a few. I may update this page with links as we talk about them. In fact I may put a link to this page out on the template. We'll see.

For now, we're talking about Humility.

Humility is not about being made to stand in a room naked and blindfolded wearing a french maid's outfit while fat hairy guys slobber all over you. That's something else, probably something you'd find at trancejen's Freaky Deaky Club.

True humility is understanding, at a fundamental level, that

    a) No-one's existence on this planet is any more or less important than your own.

b)However great you might think you are, you are a still a human being, and the greatest human being that ever lived (now positively identified as Mrs. Ethel Morris of 23 Cumberland Terrace, Croydon. She makes an awesome apple crumble, by all accounts, and always washes her milk bottles before putting them out for the milkman)is still just a human being. In the grand scheme of things, we are each a speck of navel lint in the belly button of the Universe.

we do not need to spend our time bowing and scraping and doing the whole Uriah Heep ("I'm so 'umble") thing. We do need to whittle down the respective chips on our shoulders. The world does not owe us a living. We make our own choices. And just because somebody is a slimy, intolerant asshole, this is not a reason to be rude, unpleasant or disprespectful. Believe me, I have the hardest damn time with this one, I really do. There are a lot of people out there swimming at the shallow end of the gene pool. Let them. Help them if you can, but if you can't leave them be. They'll figure it out, or they won't. The more intolerant, beligerant, ignorant, selfish, uncaring and insensitive someone is, the less likely they are to have much of their 'essence' survive intact to the next round. Most of it just gets re-absorbed back into the background energy. I think. I'm still working on this bit. I'll get back to you...

Anyway. That's humility. Be assertive and respectful of others. Nuff said.
