Sucky (five bucks) entrySucky (five bucks) entry

I am having a hard time taking our species seriously lately.

The richest countries from the world insulate themselves from the problems that face the rest of the planet. In the US, we worry about the economy, gay marriage, nipples on TV.

In other countries children shit out their intestines as they finally die from starvation. Women are gang raped by soldiers in wars that few know about and even less care about.

Millions of people die from AIDS because they cannot afford the drugs and the governments can't afford to educate them.

It makes me ashamed. With great power comes great responsibility. But power also corrupts.

We are simply not evolved enough yet to handle the world we have created for ourselves.

Or perhaps we have devolved. There is evidence to suggest that prior to 3000BC we were more right brain oriented. Read "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" by Julian Jaynes. The group mind, the global consciousness helped us see the whole picture. Now we are alone. We live inside our own heads, and so we care, can only care, about that which immediately affects us. Or makes us feel bad enough to want to change it. But there are so many things that we could feel bad about at an individual level, that we filter them out, in order to stay 'sane'. If that's the right word. Maybe for sane read dillusional.

Whatever.

You know what my next thought was after this train of consciousness ended on the way to work this morning?

"I wonder if R. will blow me this week.". Sheesh.

What have I become?

What have we become?
