Don't worry Lois, I've got you.Don't worry Lois, I've got you.

It sucks.
I don't like it when dreams die.
I doubt there is a grown-up in the Western world that would not have gone to see Superman V if he had been able to pull it off. And I think within maybe five years, he may have been able to do it.
But it will not happen now. Superman has died.
And now who will save us from ourselves?
He had fought so hard for so long, and had done so much for the cause of stem cell research. Perhaps this was the only thing left for him to do. Perhaps dying just before this election would trigger something in people that says 'How can I vote for a guy who would let Superman die?'
Maybe that's overly simplistic, but let's be honest, that really is what this election has devolved into. Simplistic messages.
"You can run but you can't hide."
"We can do better."

Well, we can do better. But not until we start teaching people to think for themselves again. Not until we can inspire people instead of just trying to put the fear of God into them.
To do better we need politicians that are more interested in doing their job than keeping their job.

We need to learn to think more than 4 years into the future. And we need to stop thinking that America is the focus of the whole friggin planet, and that we have some divine right to devour half the world's resources.

Have you ever gone a little bit hungry so that your kids could eat more? God knows we could stand to do that more often. If we all went a little bit hungry a little more often, we'd be healthier, and there'd be more food to go around.

Sad thing is, we waste so much damn food, we don't even need to go hungry to feed everyone. We just need to be less greedy, and eat better.

Same goes for Oil. And durable goods. Wouldn't it be great if durable goods really were durable? Wouldn't it be wonderful if things actually lasted more than six months? If our cars were still in good shape after we'd finished paying for them?

I am embarrased to be human sometimes.
Towards the end, Christopher Reeve looked more like Lex Luther. I think there is a point there that should not be lost.

We cannot continue to go on rationalizing that our actions are right because 'This is America, and we're the good guys'. That's circular logic, and its bullshit.

I want you to vote for Kerry, but really, I would rather you got the House and Senate under democratic control and left dipshit in charge for another four years.

If Kerry wins, then we lose a window of opportunity for the first woman president in 2008. We need Hilary, not just because she's a woman, but because she would represent the first of many paradigm shifts this country needs if it is to get back on track.

Whatever. Vote your conscience. But please vote. Because Superman cannot save us now.

Only you can.
