Forgive me diaryland, for I have sinned. It has been several days since my last half-way decent entry. I'm in one of those lulls that is likely to continue for a while. All of us have been sick. Plus there's all kinds of stuff to do at work that has kept me busy, and little bits and pieces at home to attend to. It's J's birthday today, he is 17. This means, in Texas:
He can have sex with anyone 17 or older.
He gets done for statutory rape and labelled a sex offender for life if he has sex with anyone younger than him.
He has the right to be present at any parent-teacher meeting.
He doesn't have to show us his report card.
He does have to show the insurance company his report card if he wants insurance.
He does have to show the state his report card if he wants a drivers license. He has to have a GPA of at least 2.0
He can get married without our permission.
He cannot vote.
He cannot drink.
He cannot smoke.
He is treated as an adult if he commits any crimes.
He can work in restaurants.
At 18 he can vote, smoke and join the military. At 21 he can drink.
