Just posted this to some of my pagan groups:

Terry Schiavo died today. Whatever one's personal opinions about the manner of her death, after 15 years in a coma, she has passed beyond all mortal concerns. Yet with her death, she made people question: 'What is right? What is wrong?'

Pope John Paul II, I just heard, has been given the last rites.
The Catholic Church has come under a lot of fire in recent years for aberrant behavior. Through all that, the Holy See has attempted to serve as a moral compass to millions of Catholics and Christians around the world. He has explained to people his views on what is right and what is wrong. Many people, even staunch Catholics, may have disagreed with him at times. And in that disagreement, they too asked 'What is right? What is wrong?'

You may not think that the passing of these two people will not affect you personally. We are pagans after all, and have been persecuted by the church and the religious right for the last 2000 years. But I suspect it will affect you, because it will affect your loved ones, friends and acquaintances who may not share our beliefs.

So light a candle for Terry, as she embarks on the next stage of her journey, and say a prayer for the Pope, who is surely soon to follow.

Through the way they lived and they way they die, they are making people question what is right and what is wrong. That is something sublime, yet immeasurably wonderful. Questioning leads to knowledge, knowledge to enlightenment - and only through enlightenment do we find our own way home.

May the blessings of the God and Goddess extend from within our own hearts and reach out to those hearts that may be breaking, filling them with Hope, Faith, and above all Love.
