Who is Number 1?Who is Number 1?

2005-03-27 - 1:18 p.m.
I've started a new thing for my students. I'm going to share with them information on the numbers 1 to 12.
Here is Number 1:

1 represents the Monad, the Primum Mobile, the Godhead, Primordial Deity.

It is the first letter of the Hebrew Alphabet - Aleph, and it is the only number that can be divided completely into any other whole number.

One is the beginning, the first principle. On the Tree of Life, it is Kether (the Crown), the first consciousness of Deity from which everything else - including ourselves - flows.

The Monadic deity has no polarity - it is neither male nor female. It is stable, in that since it has no polarity, it has no kinetic energy. However, it does contain all potential energy. It is the ultimate stability. All the wonders of creation add up to the One.

It is the Archetypal deity - the prototype if you will. It is The Emanation from which all things come. It is neither the God nor the Goddess, but contains both within itself.

In astrology, it represents Aries, the Ram, the first sign of the Zodiac. It is the creative thought and contains all passion and potential energy within. It is the Source at its simplest, yet most far reaching. It can be represented by the planet Pluto, which is the ultimate reset button. Pluto pays no attention to the details of a situation, it simply creates or destroys to get the desired results.
It is the ultimate beginning, from which all other beginnings flow.

When meditating, think of it as a point in a vast emptiness. It has no length, not depth, no mass, yet it is different from its surroundings and contains all potential within it.

In Numerology, it represents the individualist, the creator, the inspiration.

As the song goes, "One is the loneliest number". It is this loneliness that humanity rebels against, we all seek to connect with another person. It is in our nature, and if you follow the principle "as Above, So Below" then it must be a Universal Principle also. In fact we know this to be the case - mass attracts mass.

So from the sudden spark of consciousness in The One, came the desire for more. Something to connect with. Something to provide and experiential frame of reference.

That leads to Number 2, which we'll look at next time.

On another subject, I spent 7 friggin hours yesterday installing Windows XP. For my efforts it rewarded me by wiping out all my email for the last three years.
Thanks, Bill!
